Dr. Andrew Steinberg is a character on the series, Harpers Falls. He was originally played on a recurring basis by Stephen Gustafson, known for his role as Buddy, a member and the drummer of the Short Circus, on the long-running Childrens show, The Electric Company.
When Stephen left the show after lack of storyline, the role was recast with actor James Bye, best known for his role of Martin Fowler on the UK soap opera, EastEnders.
Lucky on the job; but unlucky in love[]
He is a well-loved and well-respected doctor at New England Medical Center, and he is a very charming and handsome man with a great bedside manner, but that is only part of Andrew Steinberg's charm and character.
Born to powerful Jewish parents and raised in a good home, Andrew was very well taken care of and wanted for nothing. He accepted his adopted sister, Angela as if she was always been his sister. While she emulated their father and became an attorney, Andrew studied and became a doctor. His main interest was always in thoracic surgery. Now he serves as one of the top thoracic surgeons in New England.
While he maintains ties with his parents, who are now living in Europe, and he spends a lot of time with Angela, Andrew was always evaded by romance, although he does have an eye on heiress Violette Harper. He would have to contend with her protective twin sister, Jennifer but he knows that he can charm anyone he sees, although the age difference between him and Violette may be a cause celebre.
After the death of her twin sister, Violette got back together with her former boyfriend; and again, Andrew is evaded by romance.
He has a crush on Cara Niewoehner, whom he knows from medical conventions. However, Cara is married to her work, which frustrates Andrew. However, he is determined, and he has unexpectedly caught the eye of widowed nurse, Linda Amherst. Could she be the one who tames his heart, and could he be the one who brings romance back into her life after the death of her husband?
After a while, Andrew gained a professorship at the Medical School as Professor of Thoracic Surgery. This has strengthened him and helps with the finances that he and Angela have. However, romance still eludes the handsome Andrew.
